On behalf of the Seneca Yacht Club and its Star Fleet, I want to express our appreciation for the magnificent support the community has shown for the 2008 Western Hemisphere Star Championships. Together we will be able to show the international sailing community who will be attending this race the best of Finger Lakes hospitality.

We know that you will join us in welcoming our guests. Please come out to watch the races. We expect to have up to 50 Star boats racing several times a day for four days. This has previously been seen only in places like Miami, Annapolis, Nassau in the Bahamas, and Vancouver, BC to name a few. Now, thanks to your generosity, we have a chance to put Seneca Lake on the international sailing map!

We’ll see you at the races!

Sincerely,

Scott Iklé named Principal Race Officer

The Western Hemisphere Championship race management team includes Scott Iklé. Scott is head sailing coach at Hobart and William Smith Colleges in Geneva, NY. His biography on the HWS website covers his extensive background in competitive sailing, coaching and his role as U.S. Sailing Certified Judge. Iklé’s team won a national championship with a first place finish in the 2005 Inter-Collegiate Sailing Association (ICSA)/Layline North American Team Race Championship. He was recognized as National Coach of the Year in 2003. Familiar with racing on Seneca Lake, as the college fleet has been seen racing in upstate NY's snow flurries and in virtually all weather, Scott's key role in the regatta is very much appreciated.

The committee consists of the following members:
